At What Age Should a Child Start Seeing a Chiropractor? When should your child see a chiropractor, and when is it safe?

Believe it or not, it is safe to see a chiropractor the very day you are born!

Infants, for example, can greatly benefit from chiropractic care. Many chiropractors are trained to assess infant’s hips, collarbones (clavicles), and their neck.

Frequently, the natural birthing process can cause injury to the clavicle/collar bone, or strain the neck when a child is born. Occasionally, a child’s neck may be caught on one side or the other.

Treating infants, however, is different than treating an adult. Less force is required, and usually simple pressure is all that is needed to adjust an infant. The reason is because it is easy for infant structures to go out of alignment, but also easy for them to go back in place.

As your child grows up, he or she can also benefit from chiropractic care. By nature, children are very resilient. Most of the time they can withstand the bumps and bruises of childhood. As a parent, if you start to notice your child avoiding certain activities or compensating when they sit, stand, or walk, they may need to visit a chiropractor. Another sign you may notice is if a child complains that a back or neck hurts. Since children are generally resilient to this type of pain or discomfort, complaints indicate that what’s bothering the child needs to be addressed.
